Link wheels: all you need to know

Link wheels

Somebody argue they are effective, others establish they are useless. But the best way to know exactly is to try link wheels by yourself. So let`s start with the link wheels basic theory.

Basic link wheels theory

So what is the link wheel? Actually it is a complex web 2.0 sites linked in the shape of wheel. Link wheels are created to build weighty backlinks for the main website to improve it`s rankings in Google search results. Ideal web 2.0 sites for creating link wheels are the websites where visitors are able to add content including hyperlinks with rel=”nofollow” attribute. For these purposes you may use free blogs hosted on Wordpress.com, blogger.com, Squidoo, etc.

Link wheels in details

What are the main features of the really effective link wheel? I listed them below:

- Link wheel should be targeted to the definite keyword phrase. For this purposes you may use this keyword in URL, description, title, header tags and about 3-6% in your content.
-The content of every component of your link wheel should be the 500-700 words long original article.
- The link wheel component should have two external links: one is linking to the next component and other is linking to your main website (with the targeted keyword in anchor).

Common mistakes making link wheels useless

Right now you may find many forum threads and blogposts where somebody state, that link wheels are useless or even may lead website to get Google penalty. Actually these things happen just when webmasters make mistakes creating the link wheels. There are 3 common mistakes of link wheel builders:

1. Copypasted content. Maybe you have to spend more time for building the link wheel, but all it`s components must have unique content!
2. “Weak” and unnatural components. If the components of the link wheel have no backlinks (except those from previous component) they are too weak to pass good link weight to the main website and the are also unnatural, so Google may “feel” you are tricking with him. For creating several backlinks for you link wheel components use free linkbuilding methods, like article directories submission, RSS feed, social bookmarking, dofollow blogs commenting etc.
3. The link wheel shouldn`t have the “ideal” wheel form. If your link wheel has the exact wheel form (as on the picture above this post) Google algorithms have chances to detect it. To reduce these chances you should create more complex wheel form. But avoid creating closed wheels, because it`s too easy for Google to detect them.

By the way, when I implemented backlink analysis for several competitors I noticed that SEO websites usually have many link wheels backlinks. So did I convince you to create the link wheels)))???
